St. Tammany Parish Talented Arts Program (TAP) Information
The Talented Arts Program (TAP) serves students in grades K-12 who meet the criteria for eligibility as established by the Louisiana Department of Education. Talent is defined as possession of demonstrated abilities that give evidence of high performance in the areas of art, music, and/or theatre. Talented Art Program screenings for the 2017-18 school year will begin in September in the areas of art, music, and/or theatre. Please read the overview of the screening process shown below before requesting a screening. Requests may be sent in writing or through e-mail to the school contact shown below.
Overview of the Screening Process:
A student who is interested in participating in TAP must meet the following criteria:
- A signed permission form must be completed by the student's parent or guardian. (see below)
- The student must receive the following minimum score on a screening instrument completed by his/her classroom teacher(s):
Music-33 points Art-33 points Theatre-48 points
- The student must pass a TAP Screening, which takes place at school, and involves preparation by the student. Students should begin preparing for the screening as soon as possible. An informational packet will be sent home with the student which outlines the screening process. Students and parents will be notified of the screening date in writing as soon as it scheduled.
- The student must pass a state evaluation. Evaluations are conducted October through May. State Evaluations are completed off campus at a central school location. Students must have transportation to and from the state screening. Students and parents will be notified of the state screening via mail.
