• Hi Pine View Middle School Community!

My name is Ashley Gaten. I have the pleasure of being Pine View Middle School's ESL (English as a Second Language) Teacher. I have been teaching for over 10 years now. My first teaching positions were in Special Education with Autistic students. But some of my fondest years of teaching were with Kindergarten. Throughout my time as a teacher, I have taught several ESL students in the general education setting. After teaching Kindergarten for 7 years, I decided to move to St. Tammany Parish. I was fortunate to be offered a position as an ESL Teacher at Pine View with St. Tammany Parish Schools. This is my second year and I have enjoyed my time thus far.

I was born and raised in New Orleans, LA. I graduated from Eleanor McMain Secondary School in 2004. The first college I attended was Loyola University New Orleans. However, during my sophomore year, Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, forcing me to relocate. I moved to Jackson, MS where I finsihed my BA in Elementary Education at Millsaps College in 2007. Later, in 2015, I attened Tulane Univeristy to obtain my certification in ESL. I also attended Grand Canyon Univeristy for my MA in Reading which certified me as a Reading Specialist in 2016. I am currently in the last year of pursuing my doctorate in General Psychology with an emphasis in Cognition and Instruction.

I am a wife and mother of 5 children ages 11, 9, 8, 4, and 2 years old. In my spare time I am usually at home with my family watching movies and playing games. Because my life is so busy, I also spend quite a bit of time catching up on rest. Bt I also enjoy my exercise time, especially doing Pilates. However, overall, my passion is teaching, especially Reading, so I like to read about current and new teaching strategies. Through this reading, my hope is to consistently improve my teaching skills so that students have optimal learning experiences.

I look forward to a wonderful school year!
