I would like to introduce myself. My name is Amy Kasey, and I will be teaching your son or daughter this year. I’m excited to start my first year here at Pine View Middle school.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a Master’s degree in Special Education. I have been a special education teacher for more than 13 years. I have taught diverse groups of students with intellectual disabilities. In addition, I have taught students with ADD/ADHD, Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, Specific Learning Disabilities, Speech and Language Disabilities and students with noncompliant behavior. My skills in differentiated instruction, assistive technology and multi-sensory lesson planning allow me to meet the needs of every student.
Previously, I worked in the field of Social Work for 12 years. During that time, I worked with children and adults with a variety of disabilities in various settings, including group homes, mental health agencies, workshops, as well as school settings.
My years of experience have taught me the value of patience and encouragement with students in the special education classroom. I work closely with each student, providing the individualized support and praise they require. I also make sure to stay connected with family members, outside agencies and any specialists involved to ensure the success of each student, both in and out of the classroom. I have truly appreciated and learned from every child I have taught and their family. I have enjoyed the challenging nature of teaching students with disabilities, and I cannot imagine having any other career.
