Timothy Glenn Lane, CDR USN (Ret)
Commander Tim Lane grew up in upstate New York. He attended Southampton College on Long Island, N.Y., and graduated with a degree in Marine Science in 1985. He then attended Officer Candidate School in Newport, R.I., and was commissioned as an Ensign in 1986.
CDR Lane began his career in the Navy as a student at the Surface Warfare Officer School in Newport, R.I., in April 1986. Graduating in August 1986, he reported to USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) where he served in Deck and Weapons Departments and qualified as Officer of the Deck and was designated as Surface Warfare officer.
CDR Lane then reported to the forward-deployed USS LaSalle (AGF-3), flagship for COMMIDEASTFOR and served as the Weapons Officer for one year. In 1990 he was designated a Special Duty Officer (Meteorology and Oceanography) and reported to the Naval Western Oceanography Center, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where he qualified as duty forecaster and Command Duty Officer.
In February 1994, he reported as a student to the Naval Post Graduate School and received a Master’s of Science in Meteorology and Oceanography in September 1996. He then reported as Battle Group Oceanographer to Commander, Carrier Group Three home ported in Bremerton, Washington where he qualified as Flag Tactical Action Officer. He made his third naval deployment overseas during this tour with the USS Carl Vinson Battle Group.
From 1999 until 2001, CDR Lane served as a member of the staff of Commander, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command in Stennis Space Center, Miss. He then served as the Operations Officer at the Naval Pacific Meteorology Center, San Diego, Calif. where he was head of over 60 personnel and was responsible for providing operational weather support for all naval operations in the Eastern Pacific theater until August 2003.
CDR Lane then served multiple tours with the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) at the Marine Meteorology Division in Monterey, Calif. and with the Oceanography Division, Stennis Space Center, MS until June 2010. Following his NRL assignments, CDR Lane joined the Commander, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command where he served as Deputy to the Technical Director.
CDR Lane retired from active duty in September 2013 after 28 years on active duty and now serves as the NJROTC Senior Naval Science Instructor for Pearl River High School in Pearl River, LA.
He wears the Surface Warfare Officer and Information Dominance Warfare Officer Pins and his personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), the Navy Achievement Medal, the Battle Excellence Award, and various campaign and service medals. He is also a recipient of the 1993 Navy League Award for Outstanding Military Service.
