My name is Jessica Kelly. I am currently a Prekinderten teacher at Abney Elementary Early Childhood Center in Slidell, LA. I have been teaching in St. Tammany Parish for 6 years; three years in first grade and three in prekindergarten. This is the start of my fourth year in prekindergarten. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management and a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education; both from the University of New Orleans. I have been married to my handsome husband for 4 years. I enjoy singing and leading worship at my church, and spending quality time with family and friends.
Teaching is not only a profession, but also a calling. I initially wanted to be a teacher because I know how important an education is and is becoming in our society. What I didn't know was that being a teacher would require giving so much more than just my knowledge on a particular subject. It would require endless love and encouragement for every child, and force me to take into account every action, word, and thought. These children become more than students, they become a part of our school family. The amount of time we spend with them allows us to really create a lasting impact that will hopefully be a postive change and catapult them into a wonderous future.
Marteesha Peterson will be working with me this year as a Para-Professional. She has spent many years at Abney as a parent and teacher. She will add so much value to our classroom this year with her knowledge and love.
