My name is Jessica Kelly. I am currently a Prekinderten teacher at Abney Elementary Early Childhood Center in Slidell, LA. I have been teaching in St. Tammany Parish for 5 years; three years in first grade and two in prekindergarten. This is the start of my third year in prekindergarten. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management and a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education; both from the University of New Orleans. I have been married to my handsome husband for 3 years. I enjoy singing and leading at my church, and spending quality time with family and friends.
Teaching is not only a profession, but also a calling. I initially wanted to be a teacher because I know how important an education is and is becoming in our society. What I didn't know was that being a teacher would require giving so much more than just my knowledge on a particular subject. I would require endless love and encouragement for every child, and force me to take into account every action, word, and thought. These children become more than students, they become a part of our school family. The amount of time we spend with them allows us to really create a lasting impact that will hopefully be a postive change and catapult them into a wonderous future.
I have two Para's who will be working with me this year: Marie Unser and Linda Hebert. Both have spent many years at Abney as parent and teacher. They will add so much value to our classroom.
