As I begin my 34th year of teaching, I am excited to be teaching 8th grade math at Mandeville Junior High. Math is my passion and we will be celebrating math this year. It is my hope that all students will begin to see the value of understanding math as it is used in the world around us. Through activities and small projects students will explore how mathematics rules our everyday life. I have developed a special interest in helping students communicate mathematically with one another. They will be able to practice this through presentations, small group work, and class discussions.
I do understand math seems difficult for some students but I work hard to offer information in smaller chunks so students find the material easier. They will be creating an interactive notebook that will break down all the concepts. Students should use this daily to review the material that we have covered. Each child will be issued a textbook with corresponding online resources. This resource contains self-checking quizzes, extra worksheets for practice, and videos for explanations. I will also be posting information about extra cites students may use for remediation.
