Hi! I'm Ms. Agena and welcome to my classroom! This is my 6th year teaching at Pitcher Junior High in St. Tammany Parish. I teach 7th grade honors ELA, 7th grade gifted ELA, and 8th grade ELA.
In terms of my educational background, I graduated from LSU in 1997 with a bachelor's degree in English Literature. In Spring of 2011, I received alternative certification to teach English Language Arts; I went on to complete my master's degree in gifted education at Southeastern. During the summer, I usually attempt to discover something new about the art of teaching. For example, in June 2014, I completed a Group Study Exchange (via Rotary Club) to study pedagogical practices in Eastern Europe. I spent the month visiting Serbian classrooms, learning more about project-based learning. In July of 2015, I became a Teacher Consultant with the National Writing Project--which has been helpful in designing lesson plans that engage and encourage young writers. This summer, I attended the Summer Institute, sponsored by St. Tammany Parish, and learned more about creating authentic assessments for my students.
I am super excited to start this school year, and look forward to meeting all of my new students!
