I am in my 25th year of teaching, this being my 8th year at Mandeville High. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education and Health, and a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership, both from the University of New Orleans. My certifications are in Physical Education, Health, Social Studies and Administration. I am married with 4 children and 8 grandchildren. During my 24 years of being in education I have had many experiences both in the classroom and in the administrative field.
As an assistant principal, in a junior high setting, my main duty was as disciplinarian at a school with a 90% free or reduced lunch population. Hurricane Katrina destroyed my school and home, forcing me to decide to move to the northshore where I still live today. During my two years as disciplinarian I was able to institute a school-wide behavior plan which reduced the suspension and expulsion rate by 30%.
During my 24 years I taught many subjects, mostly P.E. & Health, but I have also taught Civics, Free Enterprise, World Geography and Physical Science. My favorite subject has been Fine Arts Survey which is what I am currently teaching your child. I retired from coaching this year after 30 years at the high school, junior high and playground level. Along with being an assistant I have been a head coach, on the high school level, in football, baseball and golf. On the junior high level I have been a head coach in football, basketball, baseball and track. I look forward to teaching every day and look forward to teaching your child as well. As someone once said, "If you're happy with what you're doing, you never have to work a day in your life".
