Meghan Garcia, Talented Art teacher
Hello and welcome to my Talented Art class!
My name is Meghan Garcia and I am very excited to be Lancaster's Talented Visual Arts teacher. I have been teaching art in the St. Tammany Parish School District for 10 years and this is my third year as a Talented Art instructor. I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with returning and new TAP students!
I attended Loyola University in New Orleans where I majored in Fine Arts with an emphasis in painting and art history. I enjoy all aspects of art and am currently focusing on oil and acrylic painting in my own work. I was the co-owner of the Garcia.Dunn Gallery in Covington and I have shown my work in several art galleries in Covington and New Orleans. Before becoming a teacher for the STPSB, I was the Director of the St. Tammany Art Association in Covington which gave me the opportunity to work closely with artists, businesses and galleries within the community. I hope to give my students the opportunity to meet other professional artists and to display their art in our local community.
I am very excited about the upcoming school year and have planned for active classes that will bring your child's art education to a higher level of skill and a deeper understanding of the arts. This year some of the projects and activities will include developing drawing skills with various medium, exploring the use of color with paint, working with clay, other sculptural tools and learning art history and terminology.
I encourage parents to get in touch with me if you have any questions or concerns. Communication is the best way to ensure student learning success! My base school is Lancaster Elementary (985-792-0156) and a message can always be left for me there. I can also be reached by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I am looking forward to a great year of growth and creativity for the students!
