Welcome to Tchefuncte Orchestra and TMS Super Strings!
My name is Annie Young-Bridges, and this is my 32nd year teaching public school orchestra and violin. I have a Bachelor of Music Education degree from USM in Hattiesburg, and am certified in Instrumental and Vocal music, and in middle school English/Language Arts. My training and teaching continued in North Carolina and Texas where my high school orchestras won sweepstakes awards, and in 2014 I completed Suzuki Unit 1 in Lafayette, LA. I am a professional violinist and have played in many regional symphony and opera orchestras. Currently I perform with the Cashmere Quartet, conduct the NorthShore Strings, and every summer direct a Fiddle Camp in Mandeville. I am also a yoga teacher and have presented "Yoga for String Players" at state national conferences, and was featured in an article in the December, 2015, "Strings" Magazine. Most of all I enjoy teaching my students, practicing violin and yoga, and spending time with my husband, grown children, and rescue pets!
TMS has 3 main ensembles of "orchestral stringed instruments" (violin, viola, cello or string bass) that meet during the school day in small groups:
Beginning Orchestra -Students learn all skills using a traditional reading method, and may enter the program in grades 4, 5 or 6.
Suzuki Transition - Students who studied the Suzuki Method (primarily by ear) in elementary school will learn orchestral reading skills in an extra class,
Intermediate Orchestra - Competitive ensemble - students must have previously played 1 or more years and read music at a basic level. Includes Suzuki Transition students.
Super Strings- a small group for highly motivated students, auditions required, and meets every Friday morning 7:35-8:05. Frequent performances make this a high profile ensemble.
Each Group performs for the school and the public twice a year or more. Throughout the school year each group will rehearse after school on selected Fridays.
