This year will be my 15th year of teaching, 10 of which have been at Slidell Junior High. After graduating from Loyola University, I first began teaching band at Holy Cross School in New Orleans, followed by St. Tammany Junior High and Bayou Lacombe Middle. I am the band director at SJH and will also be teaching Guitar and Journey to Careers. My main instruments are euphonium, trumpet and guitar. In my music classes, you will learn the fundamentals of playing your instrument and performance. My goal is to prepare you to continue your music education in high school and to teach you the values of musicianship. In Journey to Careers, we will explore the world of work while learning about ourselves, our goals for the future, and how we can contribute to society positively after graduating high school. We are going to have a great year!
This week in class: September 17-21, 2018
Guitar class will continue working in lesson 2 this week, while reviewing our notes from lesson 1. We now know 6 notes: B, C, D, E, F, G. Hopefully we can begin learning the 3rd string this week! If you are still missing supplies, please let me know when you should have them in. We will be playing in class EVERY DAY, so it is important that you have all your materials. Don't forget to pick up your book at the music store! (Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book 1)
Journey to Careers will begin reviewing Chapter 4 this week. We will be going to the computer lab to learn about online career resources. Our chapter test will most likely be on Wednesday.
Band classes will continue working on our football music. We have our first full band rehearsals this week! Please remember that rehearsals are counted as a grade and that your attendance is required unless you have been excused ahead of time. Don't forget to check the calendar for rehearsals for the rest of the month!
