Laura J. Tomes
Welcome Everyone! For those of you who had students in my fifth grade class last year, let me say that teaching your child for a second year is a tremendous advantage for both the student and me. We have a comfortable relationship and each student knows exactly what is expected in the classroom. While I expect much more of them in sixth grade, they seem to enjoy the motivational 'perks' that are offered in our classroom.
For those of you (fifth or sixth grade) who are new to my classroom, rest assured that a great deal of engaging learning will be taking place in the classroom. We follow the regular curriculum with a great deal of practice on skills and opportunities for remediation. We focus on cooperative learning and accountable talk throughout the school year.
This is my 11th year at Carolyn Park teaching resource classes. Prior to that, I taught for 14 years in Tangipahoa Parish with seven of those years in a self-contained classroom.
