Meet Mrs. Donna Mansfield
After obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from William Carey University, getting married, and then staying home with our two sons until they were both in school, I returned to college and obtained a Master of Arts in Teaching from Southeastern. I began my teaching career 13 years ago. Yes, that is right. I began teaching two weeks before Katrina hit. Fortunately, I survived the first year. During my first 10 years of teaching, I taught gifted and regular 7th and 8th grade science at Pitcher Junior High. This is my 3rd year teaching honors Biology I and II and the Dual Enrollment Biology course at Covington High School. I am so thankful for the opportunity to be part of the CHS family.
I have served on several committes at the school level throughout my teaching career. During my tenure at PJH, I also served as a Design Team Lead Teacher, assisted with the School Improvement Plan from 2005-2015, served as Editor of the Yearbook for 8 years, and also served several years as the Science Department Chair. At Pitcher Junior High, I was also selected as Teacher of the Year for 2008-2009. Since coming to Covington High, I have had the pleasure of continuing the wonderful work of Mrs. Mary Martin through the Science Awareness Day. The Science Awareness Day is an outreach Service-Learning program, funded by The Brown Foundation, through which our 11th and 12th grade honors science students teach science concepts to approximately 500 2nd graders from our 5 elementary cohort schools. This year, I have been asked to serve as the Teacher Leader for the Science Department to help our faculty and students transition to the new Louisiana Science Standards for Students.
Although a Mississippi native, I have been a Louisiana Transplant for a lot longer. My husband, Carey, and I have been married for the past 34 years and are the proud parents of two sons, Conner and Colin. We feel very blessed to be a part of the Covington community.
I am looking forward to another great year at CHS. GEAUX LIONS!
