    I am Chanel Cousin-Hawkins and I serve as the 9th Grade Coordinator at Salmen High School.The 9th Grade High School Coordinator reports to the Principal and plays a crucial role in providing significant support to 9th grade students in reaching their educational goals. The coordinator is also a leader in providing quality support and experiences for all high school students.

    As the 9th grade coordinator, I am responsible for building relationships and rapport with all Salmen High School students and their families while promoting the mission and values of Salmen High. The coordinator teaches academic enrichment sessions to strengthen core reading and writing for ACT prep. In partnership with the support staff , the 9th Grade Coordinator, develops, schedules, and supervises all aspects of the High School Academic Program by regular meetings with teachers and students. The coordinator assists with the planning and supervision of Salmen High School events, field trips and travel. The coordinator ensures the full participation and engagement of 9th grade students and their families, providing individualized support where needed. The coordinator communicates regularly with school guidance counselors, teachers, caregivers, and others in each student’s support system. The coordinator collects, records, and monitors changes of specific student data, including attendance, school grades, assistive technology programs .

    The coordinator conducts a minimum of 3 family meetings per year for 9th and 12th grade students and families regarding freshmen orientation and senior trip and researches opportunities and organizes community service and cultural enrichment outings for high school students as well as other job duties as assigned.


    I also serve as the girls assistant soccer coach and 504 coordinator for 9th grade students.


    To prepare our freshmen for the remainder of their high school career and for the challenges of becoming productive members of our community by focusing students on core academics, proper study habits, and character building.
