• Welcome to Mrs. Whan's 8th Grade Social Studies.

This is my 14th year here at Mandeville Jr. High where I've taught 7th grade reading and social studies and 8th grade social studies.  I'm married and have a 23 year old daughter who also attended Mandeville Jr. High.  I am originally from California but have been here for 21 years now.  Wow, time flies!  Our unique Louisiana culture is what I find so intriguing.  I love the food, the music, and the diversity.  I love to travel and I love my two Chihuahuas.  I love teaching junior high-aged students because they keep me entertained.  I attended San Diego State University and Southeastern Louisiana University.

Additionally, I'm the 8th Grade 504 Coordinator.  Feel free to email me if you have any concerns regarding IAPs or accommodations for 504 students.

    Online Textbook Access:

It's best to use Chrome.  Internet Explore doesn't work well with the online textbook.  On the Moodle website, scroll down to 8th Grade Louisiana History and click on Louisiana, Our History Our Home 2015.  The username and password was given in class.  Due to copyright laws, I cannot put that information here.  I have extra handouts in class with the username and password if you lose yours.

The online textbook is extremely helpful.  Click on each chapter to view the actual book.  It's helpful to check the PowerPoint for each chapter as well as the Online Self-Check Quiz.  Also, the speaker icon will read the book to you.  If you don't want to bring your book home, use this site.  You will need to bring your textbook and your workbook to class each day.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about your progress and success in my class.
