Mrs. Martinez earned her bachelor's degree with a major in biology education and a minor in both general science and mathematics from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1996. Ideally, she would like to have a teaching assignment that includes both math and science since she loves both subjects.
For years, this last statement has been on her "About the Teacher" page; finally, in the summer of 2011 she had the opportunity to train with Project Lead the Way in Gateway to Technology, aka Engineering class, allowing her to to mesh math and science in one class! In the summer of 2012 Mrs. Martinez took the second Gateway to Technology class. This second course was offered at Mandeville Junior High beginning in the 2013-2014 school year! Starting in the 2018-2019 School Year, GTT 2 is now a Carnegie Unit course (high school credit).
She earned her master's degree in secondary administration, also from Southeastern Louisiana University, in 2001. Even though she thoroughly enjoys teaching, she would like to be an administrator at some point in the future. In addition, she completed the pre-requisites for a Cooperating Teacher to Student Teachers.
This is her sixteenth year teaching math (and other subjects) at Mandeville Junior High. Prior to being employed in St. Tammany, Mrs. Martinez taught 8th, 9th, and 10th grade science and math in Jefferson Parish for 5+ years.
