  • Welcome to Honey Island 2017-18 School Year!

    Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to 3rd Grade! I'm so excited to be working with your child this school year! But first, let me introduce myself to you. My name is Julie Ricca. I am married to Neil and together, we have two children, Gabrielle and Jake. They are both in college where they will graduate this school year! Yay! Gabby is studying to be an RN while Jake is pursuing a business degree from LSU. They both attended Honey Island Elemenatry, along with the feeder schools.  My husband, Neil, is retired from the Slidell Fire Dpt. wher he served the community for 25 years.

I attended school in Slidell where I grew up. I attended Little Oak Middle School, Boyet, and then Salmen High School where I graduated. In fact, Superintendant Trey Folse was my computer teacher. After graduating from Salmen, I went on to recieve a bachelor's degree from Southeastern LA University, then eventually a master's degree in Curriculum Instruction. I've been teaching for over 15 years and even worked for NASA's education program for a short time. I taught 4th grade from 2000-2014. While I was there, I sponsored the Jump Rope Team, as well as the Green Team. After working for NASA, I decided to step down to the lower grades. This is my second year at Honey Island teaching 3rd grade. It is a privilege to work in this school system, and at Honey Island. I look forward to coming to work every day and touching the lives of our students.

I am a life long learner who thrives on learning new concepts that are not only challenging and engaging, but fun! I believe that every child is unique and capable of learning new things. Our vision at Honey Island is to provide a meanginful and appropiate education for all students within a friendly and caring environment. We believe in promoting the love of learning and helping students to prepare for challenges today and tomorrow. By developing their character, and helping them to learn and grow, to become responsible and productive citizens!

    Sincerely,

    Julie Ricca
