Welcome to School to Work at Slidell High School! My position is diverse. I coordinate the internship program, where students get to work in a local business under a mentor to learn more about various career areas. Our mentors are awesome and provide an invaluable learning experience for our students. It's awesome to hear students say they know that's the career field they want to enter, or oh no, that career is nothing like what I thought it would be. This helps our students get first hand experience in careers before spending time and money to find this out! My interns will have many activities during the year. They will complete portfolios each 9 weeks focusing on careers, college life, job skills, and budgeting.
I am also excited to work as the vocational and dual enrollment coordinator to help our students prepare for their futures at a 4 year college, a technical school, a community college, the military , or the work force. We offer numerous dual enrollment opportunities as well as industry based certifications at Slidell High. Our students have many opportunities to receive college credits in both academic and vocational courses. Not only does this save money, but it also gives students a start on college so they can enter their fields quicker.
This is my 28th year teaching and my 24th year at Slidell High School. I have a bachelor's degree in communication, a master's degree in curriculum and instruction and a reading specialist degree from the University of New Orleans. I taught English, career orientation, and broadcasting for 20 years before moving into my current position. I love my job! I get to work with the business community as well as our awesome students. Both of my children graduated from Slidell High, so we are all Tigers! I look forward to another exciting year at Slidell High helping our students become productive members of society!
